how to protect your extensions from Sunscreen

Updated: Jul 18, 2022

Why sunscreen is bad for your hair extensions?

Your go to sunscreen may have the potential to stain in your hair extensions (especially blonde hair extensions). Sunscreens containing the ingredients, avebenzone (butylmethoxydibenzoylmethane) and octocrylene, can cause hair extensions to turn a shade of pink or orange. This will never come out of your hair extensions and cause you having to spend more money on new extensions.

Tips for keeping the sunscreen from turning your hair extensions pink.

  • Opt out of using any sunscreen with Avabenzone and Octocrylene.

  • Find a run on mineral-base sunscreen

  • When applying sunscreen, try to keep your hair up and add off of your skin, so no sunscreen product is not transferred onto your hair.

  • Wrap a towel or scarf around your head when spraying sunscreen on.
